The PPTC Awards Celebration and Shindig at Monte’s on February 19, 2014 was a night to remember. Nearly 100 PPTC members and guests enjoyed food, fun and fellowship, and the dance floor was packed as we grooved to the sounds of our very own DJs, Jerry Luna and Tye Comer.
This annual event is a time for our club to celebrate our achievements, as individual runners and as a team. Each year, some of our many deserving teammates are recognized for their talents and contributions through a process that includes nominations and voting by the club and an Awards Committee.
Congratulations to all of our 2013 Award nominees and winners, and thank you to everyone who submitted nominations and participated in voting.

Hey New Members!! Haven’t made it to a Saturday group run yet? Now is the time! Please join us for our second New Member Group Run on Saturday, July 20th at 8:00 AM at Grand Army Plaza.
Kicking off your fall marathon training? This will be a great opportunity to get in some miles, meet some training buddies, and bounce ideas off of veteran marathoners (because there’s nothing runners love to talk about more than running)!
We’ll run one of our “usual” routes – down Union to Court Street and over the Brooklyn Bridge. From there, anyone looking to run long can loop around Battery Park City before heading back to Brooklyn.
Not training for a marathon, getting back into shape or just starting to run? We’d love to have you! There will be a group doing a relaxed loop of the park (3.35 miles).
Concerned about your pace? Don’t be! All paces are welcome. Whether you’re a 7:00 minute miler or a 12:00+ minute miler, we will have various pace leaders to run alongside. Distance is up to you…the pace groups will stop to regroup along the way and you can turn around when you are ready, or go long if you are feeling good! We’ll stop at water fountains, but it never hurts to carry a water bottle or cash to buy water.
Look for a crowd of runners at Grand Army Plaza, behind the farmer’s market at the entrance to the park. Wear your PPTC colors if you have them!
At the end of our run, join us at Starbucks on 7th Ave between 1st Street and Garfield to keep the party rolling.

On Saturday, March 30, forty-two PPTCers laced up their running shoes and met up at Grand Army Plaza to take part in our inaugural New Members Group Run, hosted by the PPTC Social Committee! These quarterly group runs are tailored to encourage new members to come meet the friendly faces of PPTC and enjoy a nice Saturday run. It was so great to see all the new faces and catch up with familiar ones. Thanks to everyone who came out and enjoyed the beautiful spring morning. What a perfect way to kick of a new season of running! Here’s what a few of our Social Committee members had to say:
“Seriously — the turnout was great and everyone seemed to be excited to be there.” Evan Oakley

Today marks the first day of spring; a time when new life begins to blossom all around us. The weather gets warmer, the running clothes get lighter, nature awakes from its slumber… and PPTC gets a Social Committee!
That’s right! A whole committee dedicated to hosting a plethora of fun social events and activities. Being that there is such a strong social element in the running community, we plan to organize outings that provide a fun and relaxed atmosphere for just that. Our first PPTC meetup after the NYC Half at 61 Local was a huge success! We celebrated with new members, veteran members, members who ran or volunteered that morning, and members that just came to hang out with the team. Everyone had a great time and we’re looking forward to seeing YOU at the next event.
“So what events can I look forward to in the future?”, I hear you say. Glad you asked! We plan to host post-race meetups after target races including NYRR points races, Brooklyn Triple Crown races and most “home turf” (Prospect Park) races. The next race on our agenda is the Scotland Run 10k on April 6, so mark your calendars! We will also have a quarterly New Members Group Run, led by the lovely Susie Teal. The group run is designed to encourage our new members to come out and enjoy a fun day of running with the team – more info to come! We also have plans for fun destination group runs, team outings, a summer BBQ at Brooklyn Bridge Park, Al Goldstein post-race meetups, and plenty of other fun events sprinkled into the mix, not to mention the return of the Friday Fireworks Group Run (FGR) this summer! Event details will be posted on just about every social media outlet we can get our hands on, so be sure to check back for all upcoming outings.
Get those fancy Spring clothes out of storage and get ready to celebrate your love for running with Brooklyn’s best running team!

PPTC has a new crew: the Social Committee! We’re looking forward to hosting some great events, including post-race brunches, meet-ups, summer BBQ’s and more! We’ll announce events here on the blog with the tag Social Committee.
To inaugurate this new era of social awesomeness, please join us this Sunday, March 17 at 3:00 p.m. We’ll convene at 61 Local in Cobble Hill for food, drinks, and a celebration of our team’s performance at the NYC Half. Come early and stay late. Whether you’re running, volunteering, cheering, or craving some PPTC hang time, come out and celebrate with Brooklyn’s best running team!
