Donut Run – Saturday, October 18, 2014

From Colleen Lynch and the Social Committee:

The Donut Run is coming!! Get excited… and hungry! We’ll be heading out from GAP at 8am on the 18th, armed with money & metrocards. We’ll head north at a relaxed pace to Dough & Dun-Well then head over the Williamsburg Bridge to Doughnut Plant. For the strong-stomached, a contingent will also head back over to Brooklyn (others will be taking the subway).

2013 PPTC Awards Celebration and Shindig – Recap and Award Winners

The PPTC Awards Celebration and Shindig at Monte’s on February 19, 2014 was a night to remember.  Nearly 100 PPTC members and guests enjoyed food, fun and fellowship, and the dance floor was packed as we grooved to the sounds of our very own DJs, Jerry Luna and Tye Comer.

This annual event is a time for our club to celebrate our achievements, as individual runners and as a team.  Each year, some of our many deserving teammates are recognized for their talents and contributions through a process that includes nominations and voting by the club and an Awards Committee.

Congratulations to all of our 2013 Award nominees and winners, and thank you to everyone who submitted nominations and participated in voting.

PPTC’s activities for the 2013 NYC Marathon

PPTC is pleased to once again offer a variety of benefits for members running the 2013 ING New York City Marathon.

“Last ten” run

On Saturday, October 26, Prospect Park Track Club will organize a group run of the last ten miles of the NYC Marathon course. We will meet under the 59th Street Bridge at 1st Avenue and be ready to run by 8 am. This event is free and is for PPTC members and their invited guests only. Please RSVP by Monday, October 21 to

As usual this run will be supported by a rolling aid station. There will be Gatorade, cold water and energy food waiting for us before we cross the Willis Ave Bridge (125th Street and 1st Avenue) and as we enter Central Park (90th Street at the Engineers’ Gate). At the “finish line” (the Tavern on the Green parking lot) there will be more goodies waiting for us.

For those running New York, this exercise is crucial. Eight days later you will be running this same route after covering 16 miles. You will have the memory of how easy and fun it was with fresh feet and how close the finish line is. This is also a great run for someone who is not running the NYC Marathon – a way to “have a taste” of the excitement.

Bus to the starting line

We are happy to announce that JackRabbit Sports is again joining us in transporting Brooklyn runners to the start. Buses will leave from their Brooklyn store at 151 7th Avenue (between Garfield and Carroll) and will take you to Fort Wadsworth. Buses will leave promptly at 6 AM; JackRabbit will open at 5 AM that morning.

In addition, you can leave a bag with us and we will bring it to our reunion (see below) so that you can have clean, dry clothes and other belongings waiting for you after you finish.

The cost for bus transportation is $10 for PPTC members and $15 for “friends.” There are no walk-ons – reservations and advance payment is required, and the seats go quickly.

As of Monday October 7th the buses are almost full

The buses are sold out

Post-race party

After the race, meet your friends and family at PS 87, on West 77th Street between Columbus and Amsterdam, just two blocks from the finish line. PPTC will provide hot chocolate, fruit, cold soda, bagels and an indoor restroom with a place to change. This event is free and open to PPTC members and their “friends” who joined us on the marathon bus. If you checked a bag with us when you boarded the bus at JackRabbit it will be waiting for you at the school.

We just ask that you let us know if you are going to join us. Please RSVP by Friday, October 25 to if you plan on joining us.

New Members Group Run

NMGRAre you a new member and haven’t made it out to a group run yet? Well, now is the time!  Join us for the inaugural New Members Group Run on Saturday, March 30th, at 8AM.  These quarterly group runs are tailored to encourage new members to come meet the friendly faces of PPTC and enjoy a nice Saturday run. So come on out!

We’ll run one of our “usual” routes – down Union to Court Street and over the Brooklyn Bridge. From there, anyone looking to go long can loop around Battery Park City before heading back to Brooklyn. Concerned about your pace? Don’t be! All paces are welcome. Whether you’re a 7:00 minute miler or a 12:00+ minute miler, we will have various pace leaders to run alongside. Concerned about distance? Don’t be! Pace groups will stop to regroup along the way and you can turn around when you are ready . . . . 3 miles, 6 miles, 10 miles, or more!
