Will Ngo

I’m naturally a bit shy and tend to keep a lower profile, so for folks who don’t know me, I joined PPTC in 2018 soon after I started running.  Discovering the world of running for myself and finding the local running community helped me get through some challenging times.  I knew I’d never be able to contribute to the club as a fast runner, but really wanted to find ways to give back to a sport and community that I had gained so much from.  In the years since, some of the committees I’ve supported include:

Social Committee from 2018 to 2021: organized a small number of social runs, post-race meet-ups, and keep our members informed of the events on the website, SpeedRead, and on social media channels.

Race Committee from 2019 to present: organized several races including AGSS 5Ks and served as Co-Race Director for the Turkey Trot from 2019-2022.

Communications Committee: from 2019 to present: helped manage the website, social media platforms, and maintained the SpeedRead along with Adam Iannazzone and Emily Funk every week for nearly six and half years.

Design Team from 2021 to present: helped to coordinate an incredibly talented team to maintain some brand consistency across several committees.  Projects ranged from Volunteer Race Crew and Pride Shirts with Bakline, social media posts, and assisting with the incredibly high level of output from the team responsible for the Turkey Trot hats, medals, and bibs.

Clothing Committee: from 2019 to present: assisted with moving the clothing purchasing process from once-a-month in-person purchases and individual mail order to the ecommerce platform.  I currently co-chair the committee with Angela Workoff and coordinate a small, but hard working team of volunteers who deliver the clothing on a weekly basis.  Together, we manage the design, purchasing, and inventory of club clothing for over 2,500 members.

Board of Directors: Director from 2021 to 2022, Vice President from 2024 to present.  Key initiatives include: recruiting Coach John Honerkamp to create member-paid 5K training sessions for the club, evolving that into a professionally coached Marathon Training Group that has been free to all members, and creating the Race Assistance Fund that allows club members experiencing financial hardship to apply to represent PPTC at a number of races.

I’ve also previously been a contributing member of the Grants Committee, Diversity Committee and the Training and Competing Committee.

PPTC continues to be a part of my life that I truly value and a resource for so many people to find support, community and form new friendships.  I ran what was supposed to be my first-and-only marathon in 2019 thanks to PPTC.  Somehow later this month, I’ll be lacing up to finish my tenth marathon and sixth star of the Abbott World Major Marathons.

Whenever possible, I try to find ways for our members to feel included and involved.  Over the years, I’ve worked on establishing and building connections outside of the club to enhance PPTC’s role in the community and find opportunities to benefit our members.  This includes strengthening our partnerships with various clothing brands, local businesses, charitable organizations and race organizers.  The opportunity to serve as the club’s President would enable me to do this more effectively and continue to find more ways of improving our community.
