Turkey Trot 2012
Under a clear, bright blue cloudless November sky, the starter’s gun sounded at 9 a.m., sending 2238 runners/walkers across the starting mats for the 10th annual PPTC/Bishop Ford Turkey Trot 5M event. The pace at the front of the pack was swift with the first nine finishers averaging a sub-6 minute pace. First finisher Graham Shorr from Pittsburgh ran a 5:13 pace and finished in 27:13. The first female finisher was Christina Argueta of Central Park Track Club, running at a 5:55 pace and finishing in 29:33. Congratulations!
Congratulations to PPTC’s first finisher Mike Goettig (31:04) and our first female finisher Marianne Van Ooij (33:19) as well as Bishop Ford’s first alumni finisher Jonathan Pineiro (30:00).
The story of the Turkey Trot goes deeper, however. It is a unique race that brings out a very diverse group – former Brooklynites returning home for a holiday with the family, well-trained runners, walkers, veterans of many races and first-timers. For some, this may be the only race they do all year. All are welcome. Kudos to all the participants who brought holiday smiles and good cheer. We look forward to seeing you next year!
