Statement of Solidarity with Asian and Pacific Islander Communities

March 17, 2021

Team,

There has been a recent rise in anti-Asian sentiment, hate crimes, and violence directed towards people of Asian and Pacific Islander (API) descent. Prospect Park Track Club stands with our API members, runners, and communities. We stand against and condemn racism in all forms, including the recent attacks and rise in hate and intolerance directed at API across the US and in New York City. The horrific events in Georgia yesterday are not isolated, but take place within a growing climate of racism, xenophobia, and discrimination against API.

We recognize our responsibility to be an ally and stand in support with all BIPOC runners and members of our community to overcome racial violence and systemic racism embedded in our society. PPTC is a diverse community and we do not tolerate these injustices. PPTC condemns racism, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, and hate in all of its forms. We do not tolerate acts of hatred, nor will we remain silent when they occur.

We encourage you to be upstanders, to look out for one another, and to support your teammates and communities in ways that feel safe for you. Please do not hesitate to reach out to the Board, Team Captains, or the Diversity Committee with any questions or concerns.

In solidarity,

Prospect Park Track Club
