Inside the earbuds of … Megan Gavin
Welcome to this week’s installment of Inside the Earbuds of…
A good playlist can distract, help keep pace, send an extra jolt of energy or simply take your mind off of exercise. Lovely Megan Gavin's playlist sends her on a journey across
the globe! What's happening in her earbuds?
I often design my workout mixes to act as audio travelogues. A string of songs typically include an artist I discovered while studying in Spain (Chayanne, and he’s not even Spanish!), or a song that played incessantly when I lived in Niamey or Tunis (Alors On Danse). My ideal mix causes my mind to travel from the bluffs along Mississippi where I ran in high school, to the banks of the River Charles where I ran during college. I select songs that will create flashbacks to all the beautiful places I have run. Also, I like to change up the pace and the language; it keeps the workouts from feeling monotonous. I think there is nothing wrong with CCR followed by Sinatra! Sometimes I clump regions together, or I jump from one place and time to another. If I listen to Prince I’m 16 and running along the lakes of Minneapolis, then I follow it with Alicia Keys and I’m 33, running in Prospect Park!
