The Inside Loop: August 2013

We hear that the PPTCer who likes to sing at the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating contest on July 4th, Theresa Dougherty, sought an excused absence from the Summer Speed 5K on July 3rd due to her final rehearsal for the event at the same time. Hope Matt Strawn cut her some slack.

We understand that Mike Olzinski completed the Aquaphor Tri in 2:14 and low change on July 14th. Yeah Mike!

JC Rice, Sean Rice's (PPYR coach) 15-year-old son, won the Summer Speed 5K on July 17th in 16:22 followed by Lou Vazquez's (Kenny Dolan 5k race director) 16-year-old son Lou, second place overall, in 16:50. Since these two young men aren't old enough yet to saunter up to the bar at Farrell's to celebrate, Diet Coke toasts will have to suffice. Sean first and Louis second, Harry Murphy himself couldn't have scripted that one any better.

The certificate read "Paul Soskind was a great athlete and a true individual. His passing is a loss to All Brooklyn runners." Thank you BRRC for these memorable words and the tree that will be planted in the park and dedicated to Paul's memory. Paul Soskind, gone but never forgotten.

Congrats to David Lansner and Carolyn Kubitchek on the July birth of their grandson Clay. No news on height, weight, and running shoe size but initial reports have him taking baby formula disguised as Gatorade at water stops.

Lynda Mules leads PPTC in the shoutouts for Mark Crowther and Kamen Yotov who both competed in the Lake Placid Iron Man triathlon the last weekend in July. There are sprint triathlons, olympic distance triathlons, and then there's the Iron Man! Bravo gentlemen!!!!

Happy birthday Peter Tomasi! Since Pete's a member of the Port Jervis NY Volunteer Fire Department, family felt it wasnt necessary to alert the the VFD and ask them to be on stand by status in case any of the 50 candles ignited labels on the beer bottles and create a stir. Whew!

See you on the roads.
