Once again, on behalf of the young student-athletes in the Prospect Park Youth Running Club organization, I would like to thank the Prospect Park Track Club for their constant support. Your generous support of our program, volunteers, and positive recommendations have helped us grow into a flourishing program. In the 4 short years of our existence, we have served the families of Brooklyn as a viable resource for healthy living and fitness, sports instruction, and competitive travel teams. Our mission continues to focus on working with children with little to no previous running experience. Our amazing coaches have worked hard to produce 7 National Champions, 21 Regional Champions, and hundreds of happy future PPTC runners. In a time where children are spending far too much time wacting TV, playing video games or using social media, our children are preparing for cross country, road, and relay races with a smile. Our program is now a registrered 501(c)3 Non-Profit organization and all coaches remain volunteers. Stepen Blacklocks shared that there was at least one
PPTC member who might've had a hard time walking on Sunday morning September 30-- Matt Strawn finished the 50k at Ringwood State Park the day before in 6 hours 28 minutes, Matt chose a very tough course for his first ultra, wet and rocky and rooty and pitched sharply up and down. Well done Matt! .
Stephen himself took 3rd in the 7.7 mile race Saturday September 29th (so advertised but Stephen shalt not lie and confesses it was really only 6.4 miles) wearing his National Champion singlet for the first time. He had won the 55+ age group at the Half-Marathon Trail Nationals in Oregon back in June so he got to wear the National Champion's stars and stripes singlet in trail races for the upcoming year.
The top two finishers for our women's team at the 5th Ave Mile, Anna Tattan and Tina-Marie Rosenberger, ran the Chicago Marathon on Sunday October 7th. Wallis Finger ran Chicago as well. Team captain Lynda Mules conquered Baltimore on the 13th and Jodie Corngold and David Surmandl both plan on running Philly in November.
Hope everyone returns safe from their travels and that everyone had or has great marathon experiences.
Thanks to Tom Tobin and then to Anne Perzeszty for passing along the news that Buckley’s Restaurant and the Shamrock A. C. once again invited all local runners, PPTC especially, to their pre NYC marathon pasta party. Beers, wine, and plates of pasta are on the Buckley family and Shamrock President Joe Leahy. The party is Wednesday Oct 31st at 7 PM. Buckley’s is on Nostrand Ave and Ave S in Marine Park. You dont have to be running New York to share the love !!! Bring your thirst!
