Social Events
What do PPTC members do when they're not running? It's no surprise that runners like to hang out with other runners. It's also no surprise that many of our social activities actually do involve running. Here's a sampling of our recent social events.
Palisades Run and Picnic:
- Following a successful group run/hike through the Palisades earlier in the summer, a group of about 15 PPTC members returned to the Palisades to run, bike, and picnic in early September 2012.
Free Fireworks Fridays Group Run:
Friday evenings during the summer of 2012. The group met in Prospect Park for a 6 mile run down Ocean Parkway to Coney Island to watch the free fireworks show, kick back some beers, sing karaoke, ride the Cyclone, dance on the beach and enjoy all that Coney Island has to offer. This was a great opportunity to meet some new running buds, take advantage of free entertainment and hang out with an awesome group of people in Coney Island.
NYRR Team Championships:
Each August, PPTC represents in full force at the NYRR Team Championships and celebrates the day with a post-race picnic.
Post-Race Brunches:
PPTC members like to eat! We often gather for brunch after key races to celebrate our individual and team accomplishments.
Brooklyn Half Beach Picnic:
The NYRR Brooklyn Half is a PPTC favorite -- we show up in full force to defend our turf and run the best borough in this May event! What better way to celebrate than with a picnic on the beach!
Movie Night and Discussion:
On Friday December 9, 2011, about 20-25 PPTC members and friends gathered together to - view and discuss the Evolution Running DVD and videos on CHI, Pose, and other approaches to "natural" running - hear from Frank Deleo on minimalist footwear, barefoot running, and his own foray into constructing and running in huaraches - eat, drink and be merry!
Happy Hours and other revelry:
You'll find us, from time to time, swapping running stories and advice over a cold brew at one of the local watering holes.
