Throughout this year’s month of April, we collected poems from PPTC members that discuss both life and running. They are composed in a variety of structures, but each possess beauty and wisdom.
Read MoreEach element the club offers is thanks to a collection of people offering their time and work freely. It’s astounding. PPTC, a running club of over 2,000 members, operates (fairly) smoothly thanks to volunteers. A system built this way should be defunct, but yet it’s operable.
Read MoreI also garnered a new definition of love thanks to bell hooks’ reflection on an M. Scott Peck quote, “Love as ‘the will to extend one’s self for the purpose of nurturing one’s own or another’s spiritual growth.’” If you find this to be true as I did, you can certainly apply this to running and general movement. I think for many, running is a part of spirituality.
Read MoreSo, today on this eve of Valentine’s Day, we would like to thank you all for the love and community. PPTC, these past few years have been made easier by knowing each of you. To express their gratitude, PPTC members have written notes to their PPTC running buddies commemorating the familial, platonic love that composes our club’s fabric.
Read MoreYes, you heard that right. It’s a blog about the PPTC blog. This blog post gives you a behind the scenes look at the blog team and will answer some frequently asked questions in an interview format. Enjoy!
Read MoreAs promised, the final poetry collection from last month poetry month is here. We invite you to continue the journey below, to mull over the poems, sit with them, and soak in their stanzas until you feel their rhythm in your bones.
Read MoreWe are continuing to recognize the poets of PPTC and revel in their works, to absorb the knowledge and wisdom in their words, thereby continuing to deepen our community.
Read Moren honor of Poetry Month, this April, the blog is featuring poems written by our club members. Their works brush words into art as they discuss their love of running, nature, art, and others. Our hope is that you find quiet meditation and rhythm in your breathing in your reading and running. This the first compilation of poems.

Read More…states across the country are telling these women and girls that they are not, that they cannot compete in sports, and are policing their bodies. These state legislatures are trying to erase these women and girls. Codifying anti-trans sentiment puts trans lives further at risk.
Read MoreThis small dose of stability and moment of peace were enough motivation to run 7+ miles there and walk/run 7+ miles home. In the past year, I’ve only run as far two other times. I haven’t felt like it nor have I had the energy, often leaving my running shoes waiting patiently - yet neglected -at my door.
Still, throughout the pandemic, I’ve seen PPTC runners engaging in early morning speed-work in the park and heard stories of club members breaking records and running new PRs. It’s enthralling.
Editor’s note: As we collectively wind down from a chaotic 2020, the blog team thought we’d close the year by focusing on a bright spot as part of the club’s history: Welcoming the newest members of the PPTC family!

Read MoreFace masks are becoming de rigueur, if not downright required by local rules/laws. What does this mean for runners? PPTC’s Board recently asked members to wear face coverings while running and experts are advising that we wear face masks, even when running. But there is ongoing debate about whether people exercising should be wearing them.
Read MoreAs we seek safe harbors and fill our time in ways that are meaningful (or that simply pass the days), PPTC looks forward to reunions to come, while maintaining and building community virtually. Part of this comes from story-sharing, which our members Linus Ly, Nick Cohen, and Savanity Davis have generously done.
Read MoreAs social distancing continues to be the norm, group activities are still a distant memory. Instead of meeting up with training partners, club members have stepped up to participate in “Help Me, PPTC”, an initiative to run errands (often literally) and make deliveries to people in need.
Read MoreEver since COVID-19 forced NYC’s local, nonessential small businesses to close at the end of March, runners have lost in-person access to two of our favorite haunts: Jack Rabbit and Brooklyn Running Company.
