Weekend Recap May 11-12

Busy weekend of racing here in NYC! PPTC had strong representation in NYRR’s UAE Healthy Kidney 10k, with 28 members covering the hilly loop in Central Park. Aaron Wilson was our top male finisher with a time of 38:11 and Dominique Gagne was top female coming in at 43:45. Thankfully the morning rain cleared and the day turned out beautiful.

At the Japan Run (4M) on Sunday, Aaron Wilson topped the PPTC finisher list again! He quickened his pace per mile from the previous day and ran a 25:07. Ernie Hershey wasn't far behind coming in at 26:14. The top PPTC women over the 4 mile course were Michelle Starr (29:30) and Meaghan Horner (31:45). Congrats, ladies!

Some of you did amazing times in Central Park! How many PR’d? I didn’t. (Though, I think not having enough snooze-time Saturday night might have been the reason.) PPTC got a shout out at the start of Japan Day run. Was it you?

Back here in Brooklyn, the McCarren 5k and Brooklyn PTA’s 5k had big turnouts on Saturday. Did you participate in these? We want to hear about it.

On Sunday, our very own Kim (KRod) Rodrigues ran and biked through Prospect Park for the City Tri Mother’s Day Duathlon. (Note: she also crushed the Healthy Kidney 10k the previous day!) Anyone run the 5k or 10k individual events?

There is even more racing going on before next weekend. Wear a lousy shirt to Riverside Park on Wednesday for the first race of NYCRuns Riverside Park Summer series. You will help usher in the summer we so badly want! (Okay... minus the humidity!)

A lot of PPTCers are looking forward to the Brooklyn Half! If you are not running the race out to Coney Island,  heed this wise advice: “Come support your team as we dominate OUR HOME TURF - get those vocal chords and cowbells ready!” -Jess Yeomans, PPTC Social Committee

Hasta la vista … Happy Running!
