This is what you've all been waiting for: the beginning of fireworks season at Luna Park in Coney Island. The Fireworks Group Runs (FGRs) are one of the signature traditions of PPTC. We meet on the outside of the park by the Horse Tamers statues, and run to the Coney Island boardwalk, where we reconvene at Ruby's Bar and Grill. We welcome all paces, and we'll make sure everyone has someone to run with.
The theme for the first run will be familiar to most parents (or anyone who remembers their childhood books) -- it's from Maurice Sendak's beloved Where The Wild Things Are. So feel free to interpret that theme as you wish -- or not.
The end point is close to the Stillwell Avenue subway station so bring your metrocard and money for refreshments. Please note: there are no water fountains anywhere along Ocean Parkway, and it can get pretty hot, so please bring your own hydration. Here's the route: https://gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5521976
Distance is around 6 miles. If anyone wants to participate but not run quite that much, you can meet us somewhere along Ocean Parkway (tell us where you'll be so we know where to look for you). Or if you don't want to run, you can bike or take the train and meet us at Ruby's.
