Summer Picnic, Relay Race & Diaper Dash

  • 200 Well House Dr NY, 11218 United States (map)

Join us on Sun 8/15 for a summer picnic social in the park! We'll be meeting in the grassy area across from the Well House, and we will have tables set up. Kids, well behaved dogs, and friends/prospective recruits are welcome. Bring a blanket if you'd like to sprawl out.

The club will provide cake, but after seeing everyone's culinary creativity at our Zoom cooking events, we are encouraging folks to bring a snack/dish to share for a potluck! Also, please bring a serving spoon or knife for your dish, if applicable.

In addition, this is a belated 50th anniversary celebration of our club's founding 1970! We will have a PPTC themed giveaway (first come first serve) to celebrate.

There will be a range of running/walking activities for anyone who wants to stretch their legs. We will coordinate teams on-site the day of:

  • 10:30 am: Bib pickup for adult relay race

  • 11 am: Picnic start (arrive now if you aren't interested in running)

  • 11:30 am: Adult relay race (1 mile or so)

  • 12 pm: Diaper dash (10 feet or so)

  • 12:15 pm: Kids sprints (100m or so)

  • 12:45 pm: Kids (and parents) trail walk/hike (no more than 1/2 mile)

  • 2 pm : Picnic wrap-up

Help us coordinate by signing up with your potluck dish and relay info ahead of time!

We will be conveniently located near Smorgasburg, so you can pick up food if you want. So, bring the whole family and come enjoy the park with us!

Diaper Dash Info:
Several PPTCers welcomed new additions to their family last year and earlier this year! What better way to introduce these infants into the world of running and racing than with their very first race! We'll be hosting a Diaper Dash, the slowest two minutes of your life, at the annual picnic.

  • Distance: Roughly 10 feet? Not a certified course. It's on grass, so think of it being more like a trail race, where the stated distance is a rough approximation.

  • Competitors: Any infant whose main method of locomotion is crawling.

  • Format: One adult will hold/sit with infant at the start line and another adult at the finish line, or one adult holds/sits at start line and then sprints over to the finish line

  • Rules: First hand to cross the finish line is the winner. Infant must be in crawling position (any style permitted, e.g., classic, army, bear, scooting, rolling, etc) at the finish line. Standing is permitted. Infant must not have taken more than a few walking steps in order to win. Adult at the finish line is permitted to use anything to entice/cajole/beg the infant to crawl toward the finish line.

Spectators, bring your dollar bills! We'll be voting for which baby we think will be the winner. This is a repeat fundraiser for Back on My Feet (BoMF), a non-profit that combats homelessness through running and community engagement. We first did this in 2018 when Jana Trenk and Adam Iannazzone had an epic 5K showdown. PPTC has supported BoMF through our grants program, AGSS 5k series, and shoe donation drives.

See you there!
