Whenever athletes speak out on an issue, such as Colin Kaepernick taking a knee over the issue of oppression of Black people or Megan Rapinoe discussing equal rights, there is backlash from society that “politics should be kept out of sports.” Sports and politics have always mixed and in fact, sports are inherently political in nature. With the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games about to start, Lillian Park will be discussing the role of politics in sports through the marathons in the 1936 Berlin Games and in the 1992 Barcelona Games.
Lillian has been a member of PPTC since 2015 and a Team Captain since 2018. She has run in 0 Boston Marathons and never qualified for the Olympic Trials, although she was once a spectator for the Atlanta Olympic Trials in 2020. Currently Lillian is enjoying the slow scenic route in her postpartum recovery journey. She still plans to beat Jimmy in running a half marathon in every state.
Lillian is an Associate Professor of Psychology.
