Running Is Not a Crime
We grieve the untimely death of Ahmaud Arbery, a 25-year-old black runner who was gunned down on February 23, 2020, while on a run in his own neighborhood in Brunswick, Georgia. It has been over two months since the incident and no arrests have been made.
The running community has lost another of our own, so we continue the conversation on runner safety. Beyond that, we, as a community, must seek justice for our fellow runner.
While the global pandemic has created barriers, including further delaying presentation of this case to a grand jury, these barriers should not block us from bringing awareness to Ahmaud Arbery’s killing and demanding justice for him.
No runner should ever be targeted because of the color of their skin or their gender. Here is what you can do to keep this moving:
Tomorrow, May 8th, would have been Ahmaud’s 26th birthday. Please run/walk/jog 2.23 miles and post a message with #irunwithmaud
Sign the petition to demand charges be brought against Ahmaud’s assailants and/or donate: Justice for Ahmaud Arbery; https://www.runwithmaud.com/
Call 770-800-0689 to be walked through calls to law enforcement agencies to demand justice for Ahmaud.
