Running the New York City Marathon can be a glorious experience and bibs are coveted by runners throughout the world. But it is no secret that this is so despite the sometimes challenging start logistics. Unique to the New York City Marathon is that runners gather in Fort Wadsworth in the Start Village to wait for their start time for the race. Runners descend upon the Start Village some hours before their race starts. Some lucky runners have special status that allows them a heated place to wait until the start, but most of the 50,000 plus runners will need to find a comfortable spot to wait out the time before their start at the marathon. One challenge for most runners will be what to wear to stay warm while in the Start Village. Runners will layer up in “throwaway” clothes to stay warm - the clothes are discarded in the start corrals and collected by NYRR for donation. In a city known for its marathon and its fashion, let’s take a look at what PPTC wore this season at the New York City Marathon.

Daniel Eiras topped off a throwaway sweatshirt and pants with a Cherry Tree neck gaiter (don't worry he pocketed the gaiter for the race - PPTC swag is not a throwaway)

Ellen Alperin stayed warm for her meeting with the therapy dog in an old black winter coat, her son’s old gray GAP hoodie, her son’s old gray jersey, topped off with a blue winter hat

Mike Constantine cleaned out his closet and wore jeans, a hoodie, and a “dead” pair of running shoes

Jodie Corngold topped her running clothes with sweat pants, fleece, 2 down coats, gloves (with glove warmers), and a Turkey Trot hat.

Starr Lederer was the star of the Start Village in velour star pajamas

Maxwell Wolkin wore a thrifted puffy coat and ski pants. and kept warm reading a left wing literary magazine

Johnathan Huang stayed snug in the Start Village with a blanket his new roommate used to move his TV into their home

Audrey Rosenblith accidentally matched Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles PJ pants with a Washington Heights 5K shirt that her dad gave her

Jackie Quan and son Jefferson Lin (a TFK runner), Jackie wore extra layers with a rainbow wrist band that she always wears, so that she is positive and happy on her runs
