General Membership Meeting [Members Only]

If you've done a few NYRR races, then you've probably heard her voice. In fact, she was the race announcer for last night's NYRR Brooklyn RUN 5K in Prospect Park. Our speaker for the August PPTC meeting is Karla Bruning! She has the enviable pleasure of being able to have a running-related career without having to become a professional runner.

Karla is a race announcer, writer and broadcaster who talks, writes and breathes running. As an emcee for New York Road Runners, she calls the finish of the New York City Marathon and about 25 other races annually. As a broadcaster, Karla has hosted TV coverage of the New York City Triathlon and Brooklyn Half. And as a writer, she's written for Redbook, Shape, Runner's World, Women's Running and dozens of other outlets. Karla used to be a reporter for Newsweek, but spent her free time squeezing in workouts while training for her first marathon. Now—10 marathons down the rabbit hole— running is her job. When she's not running, writing or talking about running, she's probably talking about her daughter, her dog or traveling. You can find her talking about about all of the above at @RunKarlaRun on Facebook and Instagram or @KBruning on Twitter.

Karla will be talking about her career trajectory and some of the things that she has encountered in career as a journalist, race announcer, and as a runner.
